Shutdown script for Win98

By steve.doig ·
Hi folks,

I have an intermittant problem where windows will suddenly restart without warning. I think this could have happened since I doubled memory to 128MB. Since I've taken out the new memory, it has sun fine so far.

I want to add the new memory back, then leave unsupervised over a week - I need a script where normal shutdowns are counted into a log file, but sudden shutdowns not, and all start-ups of windows are counted - then compare 2 counts.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Steve.

Here's one solution:

Download ShutUp, a free utility that allows you to run progams at shutdown, from http://www6.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/pcmag_info.html?fcode=000OHU. Or any other 3rd party program of your choice with similar functionality.

Next, create a batch file called shutdown.bat:

Date >> C:\temp\shutdown.txt
Time >> C:\temp\shutdown.txt

Set ShutUp to run this at shutdown.

Next, add the following lines to your autoexec.bat:

Date >> C:\temp\startup.txtTime >> C:\temp\startup.txt

Now by comparing the two txt files, you can pick out startups without corresponding shutdowns.

Hope this helps.
