If I have Windows98/se for my mane drive and I want to put in a secondary Drive in, And I think it might have windows 2000 or XP ON IT,Or it on it at one time. Will it cause a conflick with the two systems.I was told it has a nfst or something like that on it and windows98/se does'nt.Will it keep the second drive for loading up.It seems like it reconizes it but it would not give it a drive letter.I have some music on it I want to retrieve .

Windows 98 cannot read or access ntsf partitions.

If Windows does not see a valid partition, it will not assign a drive letter.

To retrieve the files, you have 2 choices.

Make the new drive the master.
Boot from it,
Copy the files onto the W98 drive.

Use this utility with W98

http://www.systeminternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/ntfswin98.shtml

Remove any spaces from the pasted link.

To use the new drive on your W98 system, you will need to run fdisk on the drive and repartitionthe drive.
CAUTION-REPARTITIONING WILL DELETE ALL FILES!!!

If you do not have one, create a W98 startup disk from add/remove programs.

Have JUST the NEW hard drive installed.
Boot from the startupdisk.
run fdisk
delete all partitions.
re-boot,
create partitions as desired.
