SM56 cannot install in Windows Me

By robert_hermans ·
I just bought a second hand SM56 modem with the intention to install it on my Pentium 160 PC.

All goes well upto the time Windows starts loading the driver. At that point the PC hangs. From the suttle mouse movements still possible I can notice that he is taking all the CPU. With task manager I can see Msgsrvr32 not responding.
After waiting a long time I decided to end this task.
Sometimes the driver shows up but of course it is not properly installed.
I tried the cleanup. I tried to remove the card reboot and start over again.
All without luck.

I realize a softmodem requires a lot of cpu resources but I did not know when I bought it on the auction.
Anyway I am convinced this should be able to work.
All hints are welcome.

I would recommed that you check the minimum requirements for your modem. A 160 may not be fast enough.
