Sound Problems

By technowiz_wanabe ·
I recently upgraded to a AOpen AK333 MB & GForce 4-ti4200, and have a strange problem with the sound. When I move the mouse, I can hear it. It makes a faint click for every pixel I move across. It does it with both my LiveValue card, and onboard sound. Also, background noise is heard when using MediaPlayer or Playcenter. The strange thing is that if I left-click on the window, the noise goes away as long as I continue to hold down the left mouse button. My trouble-shooting list is too long to list, but includes switching my mouse from USB to PS/2 (Logitech optical), reinstalling everything including Win98SE and latest drivers, checking for any conflicts, etc. Any ideas?

You are experiancing classic RFI problems.

Start by routing your mouse cable as far away from the speaker cable as possible.
If you have a Microphone, or other input device, the same applies.

In the mixer panel, disable the mic and line inputs if you are not using them.

You may need to build a shorting plug for your mic and line inputs to eliminate the noise.

You can also try sheilding either or both cables.

That was my first assumption as well, however I think the problem may lie deeper. My mouse cable is not close to any sound cables, and the mic and line-in are disabled. Strange that both the LiveValue and onboard sound have the same symptoms, however it is even more noticable with the LiveValue card. Posted on the AOpen forum to see if other AK-333 user's are having the same problems. Wondered if it had something to do with running my memory at 333, but still have the noise even at 200. May tryputting my GForce 2 card back in to see if the GF4 may be throwing off the noise. Not sure how to shield a video card if that is the case...
