SoundBlaster VIA Technologies

By stemco ·
So, I have a MB SOLTEK SL-75KAV with sound on board, identified as VIA Technologies VT82C686_5.
No matter how I try to configure it in Windows 95, it still gives me an error in "PCI Multimedia Audio Device".
Meanwhile, it fortunately works (usual Windows sounds and also with my son's various games).
It's not the same situation in Linux (BestLinux 2000)where it doesn't work at all...
Please note, as a hint, edventually, that if I install Windows 2000 the soundblaster works smooth, nice and easy, with no errors at all (In fact, this is what kills me, since otherwise I would have considered it as a manufacturing defect and contacted the reseller)

There is probably a resource conflict with some other device in the computer,

you need to check your windows device manager for devices that might have an exclamation on them.

Rt click on "my computer",
select properties, choose the device manager tab. Odds are you might see 2 or more devices highlighted with an exclamation point. (windows 2000 is much better at managing pci resources than win95/98), from device manager you can attempt to manually manage resource settings for devices
Also, bios settings for PCI/PnP management may be affecting how win9x is managing this device...

On the linux side, you will need the appropriate linux driver...

Good luck with this.
