SP5 and SP4 with there updates

by Andy_P In reply to SP5 and SP4 with there up ...

You can find the link to both of the above mentioned service packs and SP6a here

http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/default.asp#RecommendedUpdates

There subject of which one is best can only be decided by your own needs. The general rule of thumb is to install the latest service pack onto a few test users boxes and wait for the screams.. If you here nothing role it out.

If you have any major installation of non ms products check with their web site for sp related problems before rolling it out.

SP5 and SP4 with there updates

We have been rolling out workstations with SP5 for several months and haven't had any issues with it. SP5 has more of the Y2K issues fully addressed than SP4, but both have seemed to be very stable for us. I would recommend SP5 unless you have problems with it, but I don't suspect you will. Good luck!

We have been using SP5 for several months and havent had any unusual complaints. I guess it's pretty stable. The main reason we decided to migrate from SP4 to SP5 was for the Y2K compatibility. We had the choice to install the SP4 updates or to jumpto SP5.

I would advice to upgrade to SP5. I think it has proven itself to be pretty stable. To see what has changed since SP4 you could go to the following Microsoft site:

Good Luck!

I agree with all the answers above. One thing you may to take into consideration if you decide skip SP4 and SP5 and goto SP6, is SP6 has a problem with Lotus Notes, whereas we have had no problems with SP4 or SP5.

Good Luck.

The Lotus Notes problems have been fixed with the Service Pack 6a release.

I am running SP6a on my desktop (NTS 4.0, IIS 4.0, and IE 5.01) and haven't had any problems with it.

There are two hotfixes for IIS that the service pack doesn't address and one for NT, so you will probably want them.

The updates can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/NTServer/all/downloads.asp

You can find the security news, current patches, patch information, and archived fixes at http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.asp
