Spanned volumes

By katn ·
We have a NT 4 PDC Server. It has an 4gb scsi drive and an 18gb drive. The 18 has been spanned on the d partition of the smaller primary drive.
The drive is beginning to fail and we need to fix it. I can ghost the c: and it works. Xcopy and ghost fail to pick up the spanned drive. Is there a way to put a single large scsi drive in and copy the spanned d: to it, without rebuilding and restoring from backup? Upgrading to 2000 is not a solution!!

Not that I know of. If you have another server someplace I would copy the files from your D partition and any other important data files and then reload the server.

Just add another Hard disk & copy all the data in . There is no other way because you cannot mirror or striped the spanned volumes.

or

Connect a tape drive take the full backup.

Install new drive and get Robocopy. Have used several times to rebuild after raid failures.
