Speaker sound problems

By Luis Varela ·
Compaq MV540 monitor w/side mounted speakers. Suddenly has loud hissing sound that muffles all other system/cd audio. Moved scard to other slot, reinstalled and updated drivers, even did clean reinstall of Win98 os. What could the problem be? Is itthe scard itself, how would I know for sure? Any help will be appreciated.

The hissing could be caused by a microphone being placed to close to the speakers,if one is being used

Check the jack in which the speakers are plugged into the back of PC. dust could have accumulated between the plug and jack

A fluorescent light or radio close to PC will cause a hissing

Turn the volume control in Windows down,if it is a good amp the sound will have less hiss

Try finding a balance between the Windows volume and the speaker volume

You will get some hiss sound from sound card output (unless it's digital)

Thanks for the help but it turns out it was a just a bad sound card. I switched it with good one from another pc and all is good, also verified if it had similar problem on other pc and it did. Just purchased a new one. Thanks again
