Special accounts on Linux

By guilbaultf ·
Can I delete the following accounts on Linux, for security reasons, without any serious ramifications:
adm, lp, sync, shutdown, halt, gopher, uucp

or are these accounts required for the system to keep humming along...
TIA

no these accounts are required for system operation (except gopher) deletion would stop the administrator from doing anything either.

better not to give users access to these accounts eg: put user into groups without access to root accounts and assign these accounts to only root access.

best regards rick
