    Spool32 Error

    Locked

    by susan dorn ·

I’ve read the already posted answers to the other people with Spool32errors, have tried all of the solutions, and am still getting the error. I have also searched HP, Novell and Microsoft sites, with little luck. Hopefully someone can give me a few more choices to try.

We have a Novel 5.x network. Recently we loaded service pack 5 (which may be where the problem started). Our printers are HP8000N and HP4050TN, and we use Windows95.

The problem ocurrs when the first print request of theday is from Outlook. If users print from other programs first, the error does not occur. Sometimes the job prints, then the system freezes, sometimes the job does not print. After re-booting, printing is just fine.

      Hi!

This isn’t a sollution, what version of Outlook are you running ?

Have you installed latest service releases for the Office version you are running ?

If not try and install the latest office update for your version.

Also go to the system that has problems and then start explorer and go to this url: windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Install any suggested and/or required patches.

You should also try on one system to install service pack 6b, and see if it fixes the problem.

We’re running Outlook v.4.00.950. All WIndows & Office updates have been made. There still may be an Outlook update that isn’t installed. I have downloaded the newest HP drivers as well. The problem began after Novell SP5 was added – and I have not found any documentation from Novell or Microsoft about any problems between the two.
Part of my frustration is that there is no consistency through the 50 computers I support. The list of possible solutions is lengthy – and on some PC’s the first one on the list seems to solve the problem, and the identical PC in the next cube takes several different solutions.
Thanks for your advice – I’ll keep at it.

we had problems with the standard printer drivers for HP8100N printers, but with one application only. In the end we spoke to HP and they recommended using the Postscript driver off the CD that came with the printer – we haven’t had a problem since. Strange, but true. Let me know if it works. Thanks, Gav

We’ve tried various HP drivers, though I haven’t tried the postscript. We’ll see what happens. Thanks for the advice.

Many, many, many Novell problems are client version-related. There have been several patches to the Novell Client for Windows 95. I would make sure I was running the latest client first. I have corrected many Windows/Novell issues just by removing the client, loading the Microsoft client for Novell Networks, and then trying to reproduce the error, most of the time, this backwards approach has at least eliminated some of the posibilities. The other thing you may try is using the Microsoft provided drivers for the HP Printers, like maybe the HP4 or HP5 drivers (removing all of the HP software and accesories first), and see if this alleviates the problem. I am in agreement with the other answer that it may be “Outlook” related, so try using Outlook Express, or Load Eudora to see if it also occurs with these programs. If it continues to occur regardless of the mail program you use, suspect the client you are running, or, at the very worst, it may be the way your mail client(s) or server is/are configured (or the software versions they are running ( you said yourself you applied SP5, did it happen before this, does SP5 work happily with the client you are running?). Good Luck! Please let me know if this helped you!

I don’t know if you have tried this but it has worked extremely well for us.

      1. create a shortcut to c:\windows\system\Spool32.exe in the StartUp Folder

      2. add the following line to win.ini
      run= c:\windows\system\spool32.exe

Great! I had thought of the putting the shortcut in the StartUp Folder and have heard fewer complaints from users. I’ll try adding the win.ini statement as well. Thanks for the work around.
