Are you currently running WIndows 98 or Windows 98 Second edition? Sometimes replacing the spool32.dll with a newer version in the Windows system directory will fix the problem. Also, it is documented to be a related printer driver problem. I havefound that if there isn't any intensive graphic or postscript printing to be done, you can get away with the HP Laserjet 5P driver for HP 4000 and 4050's. Also go into the printer properties, and set the Spool setting to RAW, Print directly to prtinter if not a network installed laserjet.

Best of Luck!

Old models HP printer drivers sometimes does not support 32bit applications. Please try to reinstall the with a newer version from HP website.

Good luck!

I have spent several weeks researching this problem for the organisation I work.

Recommendation
Get hold of an updated copy of the spoolss.dll file (from a Windows ME system).
Boot into DOS mode
Delete existing spoolss.dll from C:\windows\system
Copy updated Spoolss.dll into C:\windows\system
NO MORE SPOOL32 errors

Number three has the correct answer. We too were plagued by this, until I found this fix. You can also use the "SFC" program to extract the Millenium file "spoolss.dll" to your C:\windows\system directory and that doesn't require any reboot.
