After SQL 7.0 has been installed, can I change the name of the server? How?

the computer name and the SQL Server name must match. You can use the sp_addserver to change the server name. See SQL Books online for syntax of sp_addserver

i had an sql 7 svr named abc with ip 123. i had to migrate users from another sql server named def to use this data via odbc. so, i added another ip to abc called 456 and changed the dns entry for def to point to 456.

both work.

i am not sure if this helped or not.
