Start IT Consulting with Subcontractor?

By sivle35 ·
So, I'm contemplating opening my own IT consulting company but the problem is I have to continue working my full time job until (hopefully) this thing takes off enough that I can quit. For those who have taken the plunge, what are the general thoughts around using a subcontractor to help manage the load while I'm at my day job or to assist when something falls outside my expertise? Anyone have experience doing this and if so, how do you find them? Newspaper, freelancer sites, etc? My thought might be to find a well rounded person who could sort of be on standby if/when needed and have them sign an NDA. Maybe someone who contracts for a living or needs some extra $$/experience. My other dilemma would be that if my clients paid monthly for my services, how would I account for sudden hourly work that I might need to call this hourly person out to do? I dunno...thoughts?
