Stop Error 0x24

By support ·
Ok I am so hoping someone can help here.

I have a Compaq Presario 1700 (XP home)

When it starts it goes to the XP screen then the Stop error 0x00000024 appears.

Fully it reads:
STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001901FD, 0x80F194D0, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000)

So i find out it is to do with the NTFS file system and to run chkdsk (with both switches /p and /r) and this all goes well until 44% then i get an error message says:

"the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems"

Can someone tell me what to try next as this HDD has so much important information on it.

Looking forward to a reply

If you can't get CHKDSK to complete, chances are no other disk utilities would work either (although you might try Norton Utilities if you have the latest version). I think your choices come down to this:

1. Install the drive as a slave in a second WinXP computer and attempt to recover your important data.

2. Send your disk to one of the several companies that specialize in recovering data from damaged hard drives. This service is NOT inexpensive, so this would be a last resort. You will need to weigh the cost against the importance of the data on the drive.
