Stuck in text login

By brownski2001 ·
Hi! Somehow I did something to get me stuck in the text login instead of the graghical. I tried all of these commands that people told me to type in but nothing seems to work. I know that when I do startx it tells me that (EE) MGA(0): No display subsection in screen section "screen0" for depth/fbbpp8/8. And it also says screens found, but none have a usable configuration. Please help me!!!

Sounds like your xconfig settings got hosed up somehow -
If you're running RH/Mandrake try running Xconfigurator again to reconfigure X and see if that fixes you up...

What is in your /etc/inittab file? I am using RH and if it is set to level 3, you will have text login. If it is level 5, X11 will run. Listed here are a few lines from mine...

# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:
# 0 - halt (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
# 1 - Single user mode
# 2 - Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)
# 3 - Full multiuser mode
# 4 - unused
# 5 - X11
# 6 - reboot (Do NOT set initdefault to this)
#
