Do these users have administrator rights on their workstations?

by seanferd In reply to surf control

If so, you can pretty much forget locking down the network.

It would seem that they are using a proxy at that domain. You blocked "reverse.lstn.net"? Were the local resolvers and browser caches flushed? If nor, you may have to wait for a bit for blocking to work. (Although I am not sure what mechanisms surf control uses.)

Have you tried "lstn.net"? How about the "normal" domain names? E.g., isurfproxy.net =
226-89-162-69.reverse.lstn.net.

If "surf control" is the Websense product, it may be best to contact the vendor. You probably paid quite handsomely for the product.

OpenDNS

by JamesRL In reply to surf control

I've recently implemented OpenDNS at home which is quite effective and flexible. I don't know what the pricing is like but if the users are locked out of changing their DNS sites, then I don't know how they can get around it.
