Do you have an Emergency Startup Disc?

by wizard57m-cnet Moderator In reply to SYSTEM BOOTING FAIL

If not, you may have to download one for the version of XP you had installed.
It sounds like you've gotten the MBR (master boot record) corrupted, so if you
can boot from a CD, use an emergency startup disc to boot and repair the MBR,
Here's a knowledge base article that may help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994#method3

Other useful startup discs include Hiren's Boot CD...
http://www.hirensbootcd.org/

And a link to help explain how to use the diskpart utility in XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415

The Windows XP disc should allow you to "repair" your Windows installation...
be sure and download the version for your system, home, profressional, etc.
