system config

By john.cb1 ·
I type msconfig and then press run which brings me to the system configuration utility.

I have notived that there are some programs that i have unticked and/or uninstalled them, but they are still in this section. How can i "get rid " of them in this section or is there a software that lets me do it.

Well if you uncheck the program it will not start them. As far as getting them out you have to remove them from the registry.

The list of programs that are launched at startup is hidden in the registry.
Run Regedit and go to the following key: hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion
Programs that are launched at startup are in the directories:
Run
RunOnce
RunOnceEx
RunServices
RunservicesOnce

Programs that you removed from that startup list via Msconfig have the same name, but with a minus sign at the end. You can safely delete these entries.

You can also use a utility suchas regclean to remove the registry entries

Try running MSConfig in Safe Mode. Enter safe mode by pressing F8 key while that machine is posting right before Windows starts to load.

There are many adware, spyware and viruses that can play with you in this way. These programs, if running in memory at the time you remove them will see that you removed and add themselves back seconds later. By booting in safe mode you prevent these applications from ever loading in memory to start with thus preventing them from being able to revert your changes.

Hope this helps!
