System Policy

By msfiroudis ·
Hi,
I'm running a winnt4.0 platform w/95&98 clients.I'm using the system policy editor on the winnt 4.0 server. I would like to set it up so when the user gets the logon screen to logon to the network that the domain is already there and grayed out so it cannot be changed. Also does anybody know the Valuename to remove the help option from the start menu. Any help would bbe appreciated.. Thanks in advance..

I'm not sure if in Win95 and Win98 you can grey out the domain name. You may however be able to add the entry, DefaultDomain into the Local_Machine\Network folder of the registry. At least that way the correct domain would appear whenever they reboot. I'm not sure about removing the help option, it may not be able to be done. Leaving the help option will not allow the user to run programs or anything that you are blocking them from anyway.

If all else fails, check TechNet or the Microsoft Knowledge Base for further info.

Good Luck!

Disable "Help" in Start Menu

To remove Help from the Windows Start menu, use Regedt32 to navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

On the Edit menu, Add Value name NoSMHelp as a REG_DWORD data type. Set the data value to 1.

Log off and log on for the setting to take effect.

NOTE: If you subsequently set the data value to 0, Help appears without the need to logoff.

good luck
