TCP/IP broken

By RandomWalk ·
Concerns a windows 98 system with a D-link dfe 530tx+ nic. Windows file sharing enabled, scanned with NAV-no virii found.
After installing Norton sysytem works 2002 I find that tcp/ip networking won't work. NetBEUI, ipx/spx, work. I can browse the peer to peer network print to the print server. But can't get on the internet.I have reinstalled Windows file sharing, the driver for the nic, tcp/ip networking all to no avail.
Any other suggestions?
TIA

I like most Symantec applications, but SystemWorks is not one of them. Have you tried un-installing it to see if that will bring you back to where you started?

It wasn't NAV that did it. It was some setting Zone Alarm set in the registry.Even if ZA wasn't loaded or running tcp/ip wouldn't work. I uninstalled Zone Alarm, including manually deleting any left over reg keys and suddenly tcp/ip worked again. Thanks for the input.

DLink 530TX+'s (only the plus's) have given me problems if you use ANYTHING other than the driver disk they came with when they were originally installed. A driver refresh from the provided floppy may be in order.

However, I would first go into Control Panel...network, and add the protocol TCP/IP again. It won't make duplicates, just fill in any missing adapter routing holes (i.e. TCP/IP to your Dlink is no longer in the list).

Check all your settings of course, and compare them to other machines that work (namely the IP, Subnet Mask, DNS, etc.)

Hope this helps,
Chris
