It just does...

I think that there was a discussion about this before (I can't find it or remember why it does). But you are not seeing things. It does have in it.

Because that's the way they registered the domain name.

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to Techrepublic domain

The people who created the site registered it that way, I suppose, just to be different. Maybe there was already a registered and they didn't want to buy it. Maybe they didn't want to use or .info or .biz or anything else.

It just is what it is and we all accept it that way.

you didn't loook at the previous reply that referred to the same question in 2003 & 2005.

As you're a lot more savvy in these areas than me, perhaps you could read and provide a dumbed down version.

I did look, and....

.... neither of those threads provided an answer, just questions.

I thought my answer was already dumbed down!

It is what it is because that's the way it is!

Sorry but that's not really what I was looking for. I felt like I got a better answer from some of the other posts. It actually makes sense to me now. Everything has a reason, it's not just the way it is and we just don't understand it. I'm no dummy so I don't need a dumbed down answer.

Because Cnet is

by seanferd In reply to Techrepublic domain

or rather, it is one of the domain names owned by Cnet and Cnet acquired Zdnet and TR. It is just one of those basic words that get typed into address bars (see other domains owned by Cnet, they were smart) that will resolve to a website.

I don't have any guesses as to why TR is the only site that seems to show the as the domain, when if you just enter in the address bar, it goes to Cnet. There is probably some arcane reason, like, that is just how it got added to the Cnet network.
