TechRepublic has become a spam machine. Why??

Why has TechRepublic become a spammer? All of a sudden I’m getting three or four emails a day with the subject line “recent discussions …..”. I can’t see any way to cancel that activity anywhere on their site. I canceled my subscription to the only newsletter that I was subscribed to, but I have already received two more of their spams this morning.

When you post a comment to a discussion, by default, you subscribe to the thread. Several times a day, when new posts are added to the threads you are subscribed to, an email is sent informing you of new postings.

When you post to a discussion or question, if you do not want to be updated on new postings, make sure that the notify me box just above the Submit Post button is NOT checked.

To unsubscribe from the threads you are subscribed to:

      Log on to TR.

      Click on the Forums button.

Toward the right under the button bar, click on My Forum Posts.

Under Filter My Forum Posts, click on “Discussions Subscribed to”

Select all of the subscribed discussions and scroll down to the Unsubscribe button.

Do the same for Questions Subscribed to.

That should take care of it.

        Correction: It’s not the default

The only way that you can subscribe to a discussion is to click the “Subscribe” link on the forum page or to click the “Notify me when…” checkbox when you post.

We tinkered with the idea of making it the default behavior over a year ago; however, we were quickly beaten into submission by our regular forum users.
