Telephony phishing?

By ozi Eagle ·
Hi,
I hace had a couple of phone calls recently, and when I answer I get a message along the lines of "I am sorry to disturb you this call was meant for an answering machine".

Has anyone any idea what this is?

Thanks

Yes, it is an attempt to get around the Do Not Call List. They can call and leave a message for an answering machine.

Can't see that it does them any good. If they leave a message I would skip it.

I would think it was a way of getting to reuse your dial tone, like this I call you (hook flash) and use your conference feature while on an inbound call and redial to another location may be abroad? I have never heard of being able to call on the DO Not call list and leave a message.

A bit of a worry that its possible to dial into my phone and thenuse it to dila out.
I've started a discussion thread on this, which may elicit more replies with ideas on stopping it happening
