Temperature inside server?

By will ·
Hi,

one of my older servers (Primergy 500) had a fan failure (one of the two big ones, not the CPU fan). Is it safe to let the machine run wih one fan until the replacement part arrives?
How hot may the temperature inside the case get before hurting the processor, board or harddisks?

Thanks for your reply.

No, server fans are there for a reason. If you do not have a climatized environment for your server... Open up your case... And get a fan outside blowing into your server until the new fan arrives. Never leave a server uncooled...

Good luck

Thanks for your first reply. Can you tell something about the maximum safe operation temperature inside the case?

If the manufacturer indicates that the cooling Fans are redundant you will probably be ok for a short period of time. If the manhfacturer does not indicate that FANS are are redundant turn the server off until a replacement is purchased. On new servers always look for redundant hot swappable fans and a server monitoring card that will tell you the temperature of internal components (and warn for over temp conditions).
