The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1

By Hellrazor31 ·
Running a PIII 800 with 128MB and getting error when trying to run resource intensive apps from CD Rom "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period" and "The device, \Device\CdRom1, has a bad block". Application will freeze with these errors. Does this on all kids of software. Any tips?

What's your OS?
Has the problem always been there or did it develop over time?

Although the above has to do with SCSI drives, you might want to take a look at it and troubleshoot your computer with a mind that the cabling to the drives may be bad or loose.

First start with hardware. Check cables, may want to replace the ribbon cable.
Second- how many ide devices do you have on pc? If you are running intensive programs from cd-rom, you will want cd-rom jumpered as secondary master. This will provide faster access. You may have to move other devices around, but keep hard drive as primary master, cd-rom secondary master. Can slave other devices. Check in bios to see if ultra dma is enabled for cd-rom drive as well. If you need any more specific information on how to perform any of these steps, post a comment and we can go from there. Please provide operating system, motherboard and all devices.
Good luck!

Not too swift on this, but did you look at the CD? Finger prints or lots of dusk or junk on the CD, Cleaning has improved (beyond normal) CD preformance. Audio actually sounded better!

May also want to look at what is running when it stops, otherapplications may slow or stop the application when running. One HOG is XXXX-finder or (can not remember) indexer, which locates all files on the hard drive and indexes them usually when you want to access a memory intensive program.
