Overqualified

by samuelbarnes71 In reply to The Relocator

I hate being called "Overqualified." Applebees restaurants
had no problem with my qualifications...they just wanted to know if I
could make a salad and cook fries at the same time. Tyco International,
on the other hand, thought that "I would be bored" with the position
that they had available. I understand the sentiment, but would
YOU rather have on staff someone who could do above-and-beyond your PD?

Short-ChangeD

by samuelbarnes71 In reply to The Relocator

My last interview yeilded a
job offer. Good news right? I'm not sure why but I'm a
little frustrated and I think that it has to do with the fact that I
didn't get an idea of the salary that I could expect from the recruiter up front.

This leads me to a job-search tip for all my fellow hunters - SAVE YOURSELF SOME FRUSTRATION and make sure that the buyer can afford the payments on the new car before you let them test drive it (for the slower reader: "Buyer" in this case is the recruiter's client and "New Car" is you, the commodity.

Peace
In The House

by samuelbarnes71 In reply to The Relocator

Sometimes it's a very small world. I just took as spot with Ajilon consulting on a contract that they have with the State of Pennsylvania. Funny thing is I took the spot of a gal who went and interviewed and got accepted at Tyco...the very same position that I was "over-qualified" for! I'm not sure if the joke's on me or on her.

I'm IN, baby!

by samuelbarnes71 In reply to The Relocator

So, I've worked a full week with my new employer on an ongoing contract with PennDOT.
My resume has been updated on all the major job boards and I'm ready
for my next position, right? Not quite. I'm learning more
about how businesses are run in this position than any that I've
previously been in and it's all because I've got good managers.
It's amazing how smooth my transition has been because: a) my Ajilon
contacts catch up with me weekly, and b) my PennDOT manager asks me to
let him know when my latest tasking is coming to an end so that he can
stay ahead of me!

Am I ready to move on? Well, I would like a bit higher salary, but I can't complain about the 8-5 hrs with weekends off!
