The system cannot log you on to domain

Hi i have a win2000 server with winXP clients that are in domain. The problem that i'm having is that when users try to login to domain they get "the system cannot log you on because domain name is not available" can anyone help me please

make sure your computers are using the correct DNS.. also.. try removing then adding thoes computers back to the domain.

thanks for answering. I already fix the problem what i did was that i had to re join the xp machines to domain.

Hi

As stated above you need to ensure that the XP machines have DNS setup correctly. You need to open the TCP/IP properties for each client's network connection and make sure the first DNS address is the IP address of the DNS server (the domain controller). Next, if you have an internet connection, you need to add the IP address of the router/connection that connects to the internet as the second DNS address. This second IP address will also be the address of the gateway.

If the clients are setup correctly, you should next make sure that the DNS server is correctly installed on the Win2000 Server. If you still get an error you can try making sure that the switch/hub is connected properly, and maybe switch it off then back on again.

Can you ping the DNS server from a command prompt?

Hi,
Had the same problem,
Mine was that after ghosting, the pc's NETBIOS name was not changed.
MAYBe maybe that is the same problem.
Change the name of the pc, and reboot
then join to the domain and reboot,
who knows..
