    The Udeletable Registry Key

    Locked

    by rpatton1 ·

It all started when I tried to reinstall flash, after a server rebuild. After my workstation rejoind the domain several issues serface. I was able to deal with most, however, this one has me and Microsoft stumpped!

    Any one got any ideas??

While attempting to reinstall Adobe Flash, I received a message that the install had failed.

After running procmon is discovered that the registry key for Macromediaflash is corrupt and has NO permissions assigned. As a result I (Administrator) can not rename, delete or change permissions through regedit or regedt32.

I have also run Registry mechanic, with was unable to correct teh issues. There is no restor point for the full registry file.

How can I delete the key and recreate it?

    Thanks,

    Dick

I would just rebuild. Maybe easier in the long run. Who knows what other parts of the registry are corrupted.

Attach the disk to your computer as a slave:

Startup your computer using your operating system

      Use the registry editor:

Open the registry editor (regedt32 on windows 2000, regedit on windows XP)

With the mouse, mark the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”

goto the “Registry”-menu, choose “load hive”

navigate to the “%SystemRoot%\System32\config” folder on the secondary drive (\winnt\system32\config on w2k,

      \windows\system32\config on windows XP )

open the file that you need to modify

When asked for a name, give it the name tmp

See if you can take ownership of the folders and then delete them

      Highlight tmp

mark it and from the “Registry”-menu, choose “unload hive” ( this is important, do not forget it ! )

      close the registry editor

      You are done.
