The Unwanted Website ON My Network

By aspowell20 ·
I manage a LAN of 14 Workstations in a cybercafe.
Recently, we bought and installed a cyber timer on the workstations from a software company. Few weeks after I installed the Timer, the website of the company that sold it started appearing on our network with unwanted, annoying adverts. Now, any time you open any web page on the workstations, the software company's website fisrt pulls up before the page of interest opens. For example, if you type http://www.hotmail.com at the address bar of IEto open hotmail homepage, what you get is:
http://www.solutioncolony.com/advertweb/router.asp?url=www.hotmail.com before hotmail will open. This has seriously reduced the access speed of the network.
Pls, how can I block or stop this unwanted website/advert?

Read the EULA closely.

This may be an integrated part of the application. Most likely, for an additional fee, you can disable the bundled ad-ware.

It is also possible that the software got switched from purchased to ad-supported mode.

Required pop-up adds are part and parcel of many 'free-ware' applications these days.

An update to either the OS, or the software may have changed the mode setting.

Without removing the cyber timer, you will need to work with the software company to get things corrected.

I wish to express my sincere appreciation for the answers to my question. They really helped me. I have re-read my EULA that CHARLIE refered to. The application was actually bundled with the cyber timer.

Many thanks to Techrepublics. Keep up the good work!

Best wishes,
A Powell(aspowell20@hotmail.com)
