Tool to Monitor Internet Traffic

By Aravinds1611 ·
Hi All,

I am looking for a tool to monitor the internet activity in our network. We have ISA 2004 installed on Windows Server 2003 Standard.

Since the usage of internet is extremely high these days, we are looking for a tool that would help us in monitoring the usage of internet by our domain users.

We tried GFI Web Monitor but it took a lot of system resources and licensing was expensive.

Kindly post your suggestion.

Thanks,
Aravind.

Give Untangle a look. Depending on the size of your network, it may meet your needs and has free options available if you have a computer you can spare to run it on.

Yes, I have used (and am using) Untangle. I am actually quite impressed with its performance. I am using a stand alone install of the free version between my router and LAN. I have not tried their Re-Router application, though, so can't speak to its effectiveness or performance.

I would only caution that an old clunker PC will not likely meet the needs of the software. I am happy w/ a Pentium 4 and 1GB of RAM with no perceptible network impact. 512MB of RAM and Untangle froze solid repeatedly.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have other questions.
