Toshiba tecra s10 charge light flashing?

By zack247 ·
i was given a toshiba tecra s10 to either fix and use or sell for parts, i was told it didnt turn on.

I have a universal adapter that when i hook it up to just the motherboard (and power switch board, nothing else) the charge light flashes green, what does this mean? why isnt the tecra turning on?

it seems to flash in a pattern:
short
short
long
short
short
long
short
short

but thats about all it does. having the battery connected doesnt change anything.

so is the motherboard dead or is the tecra repairable?
is it a cpu related problem?
gpu?

Have you looked up manuals on this Tecra?

Or other support items offered by the vendor?

Does the battery need to be replaced? Some machines won't run without a good battery.

Personally, I wouldn't trust a universal adapter.

i never got the original adapter with the machine, nor do i know anyone with a 15v adapter.
i dont exactly want to buy a adpater for it if it doesnt work, but i hope it does, it has a interchangeable video card. and bluetooth.

i have looked for other people with a similar problem on google but for some reason all i get is stuff relating to dell laptops

im going to look for a manual and see if that can tell me anything. maybe the adapter is the problem and the laptop only needed a static discharge.

and any laptop should be able to run without a battery, this one does the same thing whether a battery is in it or not. but this battery is still good, i tested it with a multimeter.

what would be your first guess for whats wrong here?

reading the manual made me doubt the charger ive been trying to use even more, the manual says a flashing orange light means a incompatible or malfunctioning power adapter, i might just be seeing the colors wrong or something, i hope.

its a beast of a laptop, but if i can get it to work, it would be better for games than my little gateway t-16.

I would say that the problem is that you are plugging a power adaptor into the laptop, that is NOT compatible.

also, depending on the adaptor, you may have damaged the laptop by plugging this in...

i read the manual and it says a flashing ORANGE light means a incompatible charger, perhaps this universal one isnt supplying enough current to activate the laptop, or im seeing green when its orange. the laptop does ask for 5A of current

the manual also said that the laptop has protection circuitry just in case a malfunctioning power adapter is plugged in.

5A? that sure is a lot... I would fathom that it is the combination of incorrect voltage, and not enough current.

finding a 5A charger will be hard, and most likely expensive. so chop it up, and sell for spare parts...
