I have no money, I’ve been on TR way too much and not doing any work.

Though I have to admit that Wiz seemed to be very busy last night judging by the long list of Spam Reports that I saw this mourning. 😀

Unwinding from a busy day at the store, hehe! What better way to
get rid of frustrations than to mark spams and hunt zombies at TR!

But after the first 6 or so I just gave up reporting the Spam and just deleted it. I got one that I couldn’t delete as a Response to an Answer to a Question which TPTB at TR will need to look at because it is a definite Coding Fault. You can not report or delete those messages.

In reply to Yes, I was busy!

I changed my displayed user name…took out the domain of one of
my email addresses which was part of the old name, and added the
-cnet to my normal handle. Why you ask? Well, the site “upgrade”
at the CNet sister site, ZDNet, would not display my name since the
new format blocks display of email addresses…I noticed my postings
were being made by “User name not displayed”…now, that can be
fun, but for the task at hand I felt some sort of identification would be
          appropriate.
Rest assured, it’s only a change in the displayed name…I’m still the
same old ornery cuss I always was, hehehe! LOL :O

BUT…that username is still on file, and darn it I can’t remember
which email address I used to sign up! :O
In fact, I think it was sometime in 1997 or 98, and the dialup ISP
I was using has gone out of business, so if I’m correct, the email
to reset the old password would not get delivered. That was way
back in my DOS internet days, using FreeWWWeb…sheesh,

adding “-cnet” instead of just an email address is no longer working
as desired, any posts I make at ZDNet are now showing at “User
name not displayed”…must be something else going on…maybe
they are trying to protect me from the hordes over there????
Hehe…so, maybe I’ll think of something else! 😉

Kind of unreal the way some people can’t control the urge to
obtain more “stuff”…could it be a holdover from the old days
when we were told to save everything, you never know when
you might need it? Especially those that were in my grandparents
generation, after living through the “Great Depression” and
WWII, I think the mindset to never throw anything away was
quite common, even a natural reaction for survival.
In some ways, I’m guilty of that…I still have my old 1987
Amstrad PC 10…dual 5.25 in floppy, CGA color…it even
booted up the last time I tried it about 5 years ago!
There’s other old machines up in the attic as well…
plus the P166 that I turn on about once a month to play old
DOS games, sometimes even dialup and browse the web in
DOS still. Hmmm…I’ll have to watch those hoarding tendencies!

In reply to I’ve seen a few episodes of that show!

I mention that most 286/386/486 M???Boards had a Capacitor on them in place of a BIOS Battery?

Those things leak like a Sieve and destroy the M’Board and I’ve lost count of the number that I had to scrap because of that. Even if you plugged in a Battery Pack with 2 AA Batteries in it the corrosion on the M’Board was responsible for killing the M’Board.

However saying that I still have several Power Supplies for that type of M’Board and I have to admit to hording quite a lot of stuff. I always know the moment that I throw it out I’ll need it and every time that I have relented and dumped anything I’ve wanted it several days/weeks latter.

If I had of kept that stuff I could have made a lot of money on Obsolete Hardware that no one else has anymore.

I do however still have quite a few Pentium M’Boards with BIOS Batteries Removed and sitting here I can see 2 Athlon M???Boards with CPU’s sitting in a tray on top of a Bubble Jet Printer that I use for printing CD Faces.

The Back Panel USB Ports that where a Extra for ASUS M’Boards though I only have one left now and I’ve used quite a lot of those over the years.

Col, I write fiction stories, over 2 million words in nearly 50 stories

        by deadly ernest ·

        In reply to HUM DE

completed and another half a million in 20 works in progress, all available through certain web sites as either a printed book or and electronic format book for a few bucks or some other sites for free. They range from a couple of thousand words to up to 300,000 words long.

i’m envious. I did a little poetry writing a number of years ago, but seems i’ve wondered away from it. I’d like to get to a point where i had enough to send to a publishing company and have it printed. Ahhh…maybe someday. Good luck DE 🙂

I use two names because my publisher wanted my Clan Amir series

          by deadly ernest ·

          In reply to that’s cool

not immediately associated with the first book I put with him.

Some stories can be found on my Home page – http://www.bywater.net.au – not the latest versions though, as my writing has improved a lot in the last years or so since I updated them. Others can be found via storiesonline.net – finestories.com – http://www.lulu.comhttp://www.dpdotcom.com

All up I’ve had about 300,000 downloads from the free sites and sold close to a thousand copies from the others. not all the stories are available as freebies, but about 60% are.

I write as Ernest Bywater and the Clan Amir series is as Ernest Edwards.

One of my earliest stories was about the IT industry, first draft done back around 1998 and finally released it into the wild in 2007 – in it I predicted certain actions by some big IT players (based on their past actions and statements) and am seeing more and more of them coming true each year.
          …………..

          edit to add

With print on demand via http://www.lulu.com you can now make available to the public stuff in any size and at almost any price. Also, sites like storiesonline and finestories allow you to put it out free to a range of readers.
