    Trouble downloading….using IE

    Locked

    by fuelm@n ·

I can’t download .exe and .zip file using Internet Explorer, though I can download other files using IE. I’m able to download .exe and .zip file using a download manager such as GoZilla or Download Accelerator, but I am not wanting to us them at all times. How do I correct this problem. The problem started about two months ago and I have not been able to correct it. I’m running WinMe with IE 5.5, Thank you.

      Hi there,

What happen when you click on the link to .exe or .zip file?
Anyway, try left click on the link, and choose “Save Target As…”?

      Good luck,

When I click on to download a .exe or a .zip file, all I get is the browser opening an empty white page.

Try using a right-click and “save as” on the link.

Also note that Go!Zilla will cause this white page to appear as it intercepts all download requests before they make it to the new window.

If you want to use Go!Zilla AND Internet Explorer downloads, turn off “Capture all FTP” and “Browser Integration” in Go!Zilla

I was having the same problems with the pc’s here at work. I found that the firewall settings were stripping these files. I made the changes to the firewall and they have been passing through just fine ever since.

There are two possibilities, both security settings. The first is that you have a firewall that does not allow it. The second is that you might have high security set on Internet Explorer (IE). IF teh second case is true, then you can change it by right clicking IE, selecting properties, and then selecting the security tab. Then click on settings and adjust to the lowest possible security setting. If this does not wok, you probably have a fire wall configuration problem.

Oh, and there is one more possibility. Perhaps you have some internet scan virus software that thinks every executable file it traces is a virus.

I do use a FireWall and I disabled it and checked all of my setting in IE, but I still have the same problem. I reinstalled IE 5.5 and then went up to IE 6, still no help. I’ve been using my firewall for about 2 years and it never gave me any problems. I disabled GoZilla and such things like it, still no help. Any more clues, I even tried right click and save file as.
