Troubleshooting Red Hat Enterprise Edition 5.2 on ESX Server 3.5

By isabelle.spiessens ·
Hi,

After installing RHEL 5.2 on ESX Server 3.5, it is impossible to establish a networkconnection.
When I work with DHCP, the RHEL gets a DHCP address, but I can't activate the network. If I use a static IP address, it's possible to activate the network, but I can't ping or see any details from our network;
I did the same installation on a hardware server and it works all fine.

Hopefully someone knows the answer to my problem.

Hi, I'm in the same boat and I was wondering if you have resolved this and perhaps you can share how it was done?

Thanks!

Hello,
Did you find any solution for that problem? We are having the same issue with ESX3.5.

The cause on our site

by tanchiawting In reply to any solution?

Turned out that the person who did the Linux installation did not switched off Zen, Linux's own virtualization component, so we had a virtualization-on-virtualization (Zen on VMware) situation. Once we switched Zen off, we can ping externally and did not even have to re-install RedHat at all :)

Sorry, no detailed steps since it was fixed by an external consultant.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
CT

a script was the cause

by ovatandas In reply to The cause on our site

A script, written by the programmers caused our error. 3 of RHEL servers had that script make the network crazy. When we disable the script everything was fine.
