Trust Relationship between PDC & BDC..??

By DS9 ·
We're running Win NT Server 4.0 (with SP6a) on all of our servers. After a recent virus attach that took down several machines, we are now in a rebuilding mode. We have just returned our BDC to service on the domain, but we are getting the followingmessage in the system log of the PDC. Our domain is WEB-720A, our PDC is SRV-720D and our BDC is SRV-720A.

Message is:
"The computer SRV-720A tried to connect to the server SRV-720D using the trust relationship established by the domain WEB-720A. However, the computer lost the correct security identifier (SID) when the domain was reconfigured. Reestablish the trust relationship."

I'm well aware of how to establish trust relationships in WINS between two different domains, but am not aware of how to establish the between server in the SAME domain.

I tried renaming the domain on the BDC and then returning it to the WEB-720A domain, but that did not solve the problem.

Any suggestions guy's..??

Regards
George

Trust Relationship between PDC & BDC..??

remove the name from server manager and reboot the BDC. Go into Network neighborhood again and add the name and domain from there. Where you have to login with a admin acct. then resinc the network from the pdc. It's worked for me a couple of times.

I thought I had tried that before, but maybe not in that specific order. At any rate, it did the trick O.K., Thanks.

Trust Relationship between PDC & BDC..??

I realize this is server to server so not exactly the same but, just in case this might help.

I recently had a Win2k client machine return a message that went something like "unable to establish trust relationship with domain controller". I tried a number of things such as you described to fix it but without succeess.

To fix it I changed the client machine from Loging on to a Windows NT Domain, to using a Workgroup. After rebooting I changed it back to NT DOMAIN and everything is fine now.

No, I've had good luck with that in Windows 98, and it might work O.K. for Win NT Workstation, but it just does not do the job in Win NT Server.
