    Tweak UI for Win 98

    Locked

    by dalelife ·

Is Tweak UI now a part of Win 98? If so, where? Or, is it not installed but in a folder on the Win 98 CD?

Tweakui is not installed by default.
It is on the CD under \tools\reskit\powertoy
      Go to Add/remove programs
      Select the Windows Setup tab
Clck the have disk tab and browse to the \tools\reskit\powertoy folder
select the tweakui.inf file and click ok. Clcick ok again
Place a check mark next to Tweak UI and click install.

Now that you’ve found Tweak UI on the CD here is an easier way to install it. Right click on the file and select intall from the menu. All “.inf” files can be installed with this procedure.

TweakUI has been around for a feew years and is a great tool. It is addedd to the 98 2nd edition CD in the add-on or extras section of the CD. If not there then avail at numerous places on the web. The most effective way to use this util is:

Create a folder called powertoys in your root drive, ie C:

copy the tweakiui.exe executable self -extracting filer there and then run the executable and let it expand in the powertoys directory.
Explore the directory and find the tweaui.inf file.. Righjt clickthe file and select install it will run a couple of files and should prompt you for the location of the files. Make the explorer window point to the powertoys directory and specific file. Highlight it…press ok and it should run the rest of the files stopping only to give you info on each feature. Print these or go back and check out the readme file later.
After install has run go to the control panel and set your paprameters. As i mention ed before it has alot of neat utils. You will have to reboot to

Not part of win 98 but is on the cd-rom for you to install. Go to tools folder on cdrom. Then to reskit folder. Then to powertoys folder. Right click on tweakui.inf folder and choose to install. Check control panel and you will see tweakui there.

If you have regular Windows 98 you are in luck. They have removed it from
Windows98 Second Edition. It was never on the OEM versions and the folks
complained, but OEM folks did not want to support it the talked Microsoft out
      of it. A real bummer.

No, if it were, it would not be packaged separately. Additionally, the readme states unequivocally that its a non-warranted addon. But Tweak UI 95 features have been incorporated into Win 98. So, perhaps in Win 2000, or whatever the next release will be named, some of the great functions in Tweak UI 98 will be bundled in. By the way, Tweak UI is ONLY for windows 98. Do not use it with Win 95 or any other flavor of Wintel.
