Unable to access Windows XP Professional OS

By tbryant357 ·
Recently I purchased a Dell Optiplex SX-270 computer from a business closeout auction. I came to find out that the PC was utilized on the company's network and it is still password protected. Password is unknown. When PC is turned on, I am unable to get past the logon screen to access Windows. Can anyone please provide any assistance with how I might be able to bypass this screeen or resolve this issue in order to use computer.

Ultimate Boot CD...

by scott_heath In reply to Unable to access Windows ...

Try Google searching on 'ultimate boot cd". It's free to download and it has a password reset utility. Of course it also has a Windows Key on the computer somewhere, so you can call Dell get an OEM Windows CD and then just re-install so it's clean.

Click here and go to jumper settings on the page. This will give you directions for how to clear the password(s).

Wiz, wrong password.

by CharlieSpencer In reply to Resetting password

He's not trying to clear a BIOS password, he's trying to clear a Windows password. This jumper won't affect a Windows account.

Interesting that the company didn't erase the hard drives before selling the equipment. Might be full of all sorts of interesting data.

You're right. I didn't read it very well. In a hurry. UBCD is the way to go then.

Get the Dell Recovery CDs

by JamesRL In reply to Unable to access Windows ...

Your best course is to get the Dell CDs (assuming the PC has the product key on the PC somewhere), format and do a clean install.

Trust me you don't want to deal with a messed up registry or any of the other potential issues. Best to start from scratch.
