Boot from CD/DVD :
Boot from CD/DVD :

Have told BIOS to boot from CD/DVD first but it doesn't seem to find either (I've got two drives)

I am trying to upgrade from XP SP3 to Win 7. I've tried both the 32 and the 64 bit discs.

Once in Windows drives work fine

Boot CD/DVD

by dmiles In reply to Unable to boot from DVD

Another option would be to push F8 during start up then elect the cd/dvd drive from the menu, this should start your installation.

OK you have 2 DVD Drives

by OH Smeg In reply to Unable to boot from DVD

But what type are they and if they are SATA Drives are they on the Lowest SATA Connectors?

I've seen cases in the past where SATA DVD Drives are not Bootable because they are too far down the SATA Chain.

If that is of any help here.

Try moving them to 0 and 1

by OH Smeg In reply to 3 & 4 on the list

Or 1 & 2 on the M'Board and see if that makes any difference.

With several systems that I've worked on I've seen that move necessary to allow the system to boot off a DVD.

F6 to load additional drivers

by oldbaritone In reply to Unable to boot from DVD

Sounds like you need an extra driver for the DVD or controller to run during the setup process.

download the manufacturer's drivers, put them on a CD/DVD, and press F6 during boot to load them.

Since they work OK with the full set of Windows drivers, it sound like they need a little more than what loads during "safe mode" - which is used during the initial part of set-up to copy enough information for a normal boot.

Good luck.
