Unable to connect to the internet

By fsuero4 ·
I have three computers connected to a Lynksys etherfast cable/DSL firewall router. Two of them are working find. All ports in the router work fine and network cables are fine as well.

I have a p166 computer running windows 98SE with 128 MB of RAM. Also, this computer has a netgear fa311/312 PCI Network adapter, TCP/IP is configure to auto detect IP address. The adapter lights and router lights are turned on and I am not able to connect to the internet. What could be the cause?

I also tried the network adpters from the other working computers and I tried going back to windows 98 from a previous installation of windows 2000 Profesional but it still does not work. Any suggestion?

I tried adding the gateway and my desktop computer did not see the network. When I try ipconfig/release and ipconfig /renew with gateway or without it, I get the following message:

IP configuration error
DHCP server unavailable: renewing adapter ""

When I type ipconfig /all with the gateway or without it, I get the following:

-IP Address and subnet mask have an ip address from a reserved class B network, which cannot directly communicate with hosts outside this subnet, including internet hosts.
-Default gateway is blank
-DHCP Server differnt from the other computers DHCP server configuration.
-Primary and secondary wins server blank.
-Lease obtained found
-Lease expires blank

Also, I tried adding the gateway, static IP address and subnet mask but did not work.

Can you see all three computers on your network.
If no try and reconfigure the network conneciton on the computer that does not work.
Also have you tested the cable with cable tester.

This is very helpful. I can see two of the three computers on the network. I have reconfigured the network connection but it is still not working. Any suggestion?

Also, I tested the cable with cable tester. I tried the cable from the none working computer in both of the working computer and vice versa.

Are you able to browse your network with the computer that you are having trouble with.

I've had a similar problem with my network, with the feed back i got from friends did not work. I just formatted the computer and now working fine, started with 3 and since i've added more pc to my network and working fine for the internet.
