unable to install RH7.1 and RH7.2

I'm no expert, but if I had to guess, the system either can't find your hard drive/root file system or it can't find your boot record or /boot partition.

Can you boot from a floppy created during the installation? If so, that might be a good start.

Are you dual-booting? Using a boot loader like LILO or GRUB? I would make sure you're installing one or the other, as I was once told you will then need to use a boot floppy all the time. Don't know if that's right or wrong, but since I dual boot I just use LILO.

You might also want to doublecheck simple hardware mistakes. For example, with IDE drives, make sure your jumpers are set properly. I would also make sure you're using Master and Slave settings, as one of the folks over at The Register had difficulty doing a Red Hat install with jumpers set to Cable Select.

Good luck!

Take care,
Mike
