Unable to open Office97 files from share

There are 3 NT 4.0 (SP3)workstations on our Novell LAN that are unable to open Word and Execel files that are on the shared network drives. Users log on to Novell and NT and open the files (by selecting them from within explore or by opening them from within Office97), but the files appear blank.
Permissions are ok (they are able to open these files logged on as themselves from other NT workstations).
Tried reinstalling Office with no luck.
Any ideas?

Have you tried checking the workstation profile for permissions?

Make sure the latest service packs are installed on the Novell servers. If they are up to date take one NT machine and upgrade the sp3 to at least sp4. Also try the new Client 4.7 for NT.

Also open the file with wordpad to verify data in the file. If so try the service pack update for the office97. may be just a display problem.

For troubleshooting, just copy the files to the local harddrive, check the size of the new file and than open it with Office. If the problems dissappears you know it is an Office problem.
