Unable to see a computer on Network Neig

By hbee ·
I am currently running a laptop on Windows NT 4 workstation. I am able to see other machines on the network, but I can't see myself in Network Neighborhood. Could this be related to NetBios or WINS Server. If I go into Server Manager and click onmy computer name, an error message would appear saying "cannot find network path" I can ping myself and other machines, but cannot find by computer by name. Any suggestions you can provide would be great.

Unable to see a computer on Network Neig

Its very clear that there is no problem in connecting to the network as you could see other users on the network. I have faced the opposite situation wherein i could see myself but cant see others after logging succesfully to the network. Go to the server and check out what are the protocols being used. Go to the network neighbourhood of your laptop and see if you have mentioned the correct workgroup and the domain name and also see if you have the protocol used on the server on your lap top too. IF all the above questions are positive then try removing the protocol, reboot and then try installing them back. This should work.

The Machine's hidden G$$ net logon account will logon to the first
domain controler which may not have sychronized with the PDC .Check
this through win diagnostics\network utility. The browsers uses
the NetServerEnum2 API call via net bios mailslots UDP port 135
Bypass this by using net view \\ computer cmd. If the resources
are visible than their is an error in the above paths or 12/15 min
{default setting}back up periodicty ( regedit F3 )wait has not elapsed.
Another possibility isthe net config server /hidden :no
needs to be set.

You won't see a computer on the network unless it has a printer, or drive shared out for use by another computer. Share your C: drive, then wait 12-15 minutes (sometimes happens immediately) and I'll bet you can see yourself........
