Unable to Shadow Citrix Session

By qhcomputingny ·
Hello,

I have a windows xp laptop trying to shadow a session while connected to citrix metaframe for windows nt 4.0 terminal server. For some reason, the shadow option is greyed out when i right-click on the user to take control. If I hook up another laptop that is running windows 2000 pro, i am able to shadow the session without problems. Is there any issues with xp and citrix for windows nt 4.0 terminal serv. edition? I know there are issues with resolution settings but i have tried all different settings to match the host and the client coming in, and still no luck.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Unable to Shadow Citrix Session

by TimTheToolMan In reply to Unable to Shadow Citrix S ...

Hi,

I seem to remember that the ability to shadow in Citrix was an installation option that couldn't be changed.

Of course, that was probably a version or two ago, but the reason they did it like that was to absolutely guarantee there could beno possibility of unauthorised shadowing if you didn't want it, so I'm guessing it may not have changed.

It required a re-install to enable shadowing.

What I dont remember is whether that can be the cause from your "client end". Something to look at, though...

Cheers,
Tim.

On the Citrix server select Start - Programs - MetaFrame Tools - Citrix Connection Configuration. Double click the ica-tcp Connection. Click Advanced & at the very bottom you'll see the settings for Shadowing. You can also use User Manager for Domains to set shadowing defaults by user.

Whoops, didn't read your question properly (like Tim I feel)! Very strange if the only difference is XP vs 2000.

Unable to Shadow Citrix Session

I think I may have figured this one out on my own. By reducing XP's Desktop settings from 32bit to 16bit, I was able to shadow sessions coming through on the server. Thanks for the reply though.
