Unnecessary checks of drives

By baranowito ·
I was wondering if there is any way that I can get my computer's system to stop checking disks in my floppy drive and external zip drive? I have Windows ME I never had this problem with any other computer or system this frequently (checks every 45-60 minutes). I can't do anything on my computer while it is checking and all my applications run a lot slower after the check. Is there any system file I can get into to change this setting (I don't see a constant need to check the drives)? If there is and I do this, will there be problems caused on my computer?

In regards to if I'm running any virus scanning prgrams, I am. I have Norton Corporate Edition, but when I look through my scan settings, it is only set to scan on Tuesday nights (I set that when I got the computer). I look at the scan history and it only has the tuesday night times mentioned and manual floppy drive scans I do before turning in a programming assignment on a floppy. Is there some other setting I should look for? Thanks for your help.

Make sure the drives are not mentioned in the PATH environment variable as well

Do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and see if findfast.exe is running. This is an MS Office program that indexes Offices file periodically. If it is I recommend do a find files on it and deleting it. Doing it that way is the only way I know of removing it and in my experience there is little or no advantage in having it.
