USB Help

By dan ·
I just installed WIN2K Pro on my computer and now it will not detect any USB devices.
According to the Device Manager the USB Root hub and the VIA USB Universal host controller are installed and working.
The motherboard is an Abit BH6-II.
Has anyone run into this or know what to do to get devices to work or be recognized?

Thanks

USB Help

Hi there,
The symptom you listed usually indicates that USB devices have not been enabled in the BIOS.
The fix is to enter your BIOS during initial boot-up, by pressing the keys indicated (F2, DEl, etc). Find the section that enables/disablesUSB and ensure that it is enabled. Then exit, saving changes.
Be careful if you aren't knowledgeable about BIOS because the potential exists for you to render your system unusable. If you aren't comfortable working here, contact your local maintenance shop to help you.

Good Luck,

Bios is not the problem. And I know to be careful, I am not an amateur.

I had the same problem under Win2k, but with a Soyo motherboard. I went into device manager/properties for the VIA USB host controller and clicked Update Driver but instead of letting the computer look for a suitable driver (off the CD) I displayeda list of all known drivers. I had 4 choices and installed the last one, VIA USB Universal Host Controller. That worked for me, hope it works for you.

When I isntalled win2k on my compaq persario 5240 I ran in the problem that that win2k said there was no hubs and at all - when I contacted compaq they said that they haven't developed a patch/driver for it yet and I was out of luck - so I went backto Win98.....

But to your question is - is all your usb devices win2k compatible - example my creative web cam (one of the first that came out that it doesn't even have a model number) is not win2k and I was told from them that they don't have any drivers that will work on win2k and aren't expecting to have any. So my question to you is did you download any updated drivers for the win2k that have been tested to work on win2k by the mfg?
