Use of one domain for US and UK

By jiml ·
I want to use the same domain address to point to a website in the US and an exchange server in the UK? Currently it points to a website hosted here in the US, but I am going to want to have email services established in the UK that can use that same domain name. Possible? Thanks in advance. Jim

Simple answer is yes. Set-up an MX record for your exchange server(UK) on your DNS in US.

To expand upon the previous answer:
An internet domain, company.com, is managed by an "authoritative DNS" which handles all name requests for the domain. Contact whichever ISP handles the DNS for your domain and have them create a "Mail Exchanger"(MX)record pointing to your mail server.

You may have to have the other ISP (which controls the address of your mail server) create a "Reverse Lookup" record. I'm not exactly sure of the technical name for this record. Without it, some SMTP mail serverswill fail to deliver mail to your server.

smithberry@mediaone.net said it best.

for a bit more refference if you want to clarify the whole DNS 'thing'

get: Windows NT DNS by New Riders ISBN: 1-56205-943-2 $30US. less wordy and technical than most DNS books, but I believe it is a good placeto get the idea of things.

Yes, it is possible. Just ask your DNS administrator to modify your MX records to reflect the UK mail server address.
