Using a USB printer from separate PCs

By stuart_ray ·
I have two PCs which are used independantly but want them to use the same USB printer. How can this be done without making one PC a 'server' which must be permanently on? Is there something similar to the auto switches that were used with parallel printers?

Hello...

All of the USB printer switches I know of require you to push a button to switch. One automatic alternative for a USB printer would be a standalone network (ethernet) printer server. They are amazingly inexpensive, but not as cheap as you might like.
