Locked

value.nds corrupt

By baisha_ward ·
I get a message on the server that states Error reading file value.nds file path sys:_netware\value.nds DS remains locked, error_131. Is there any options to fixing this besides reinstalling the NDS.

This is a very urgent question. All correctanswer will receive the highest available points.

You might have a user that keeps this file locked. Someone not closing his login-window for example locks an NDS file, or someone having a NAL application installed on him.
Check in monitor if someone has a file in SYS:\_NETWARE locked. Delete the connection (the client will reconnect anyway), and your problem may be fixed.

Good luck.

Don't think of this as a dumb question, I see you referred to the sys:_netware directory, but I do not see it. Where can I find it? Thanks

SYS:_netware is hidden.

load netbasic and use a shell to get there. Otherwise you WON'T be able to see it.

Personally, I doubt that the above answer will solve the problem. A faster, and uglier way to accomplish it would be to ask everyone to log off tonite and have them turn off their PCs.

Then at the server console type disable login so that no logins can be established. Then in Monitor, disconnect all of the connections.
Load DSRepair, and see if it fixes it up for you. Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Rememeber to "enable login" when you're done.

While you are in Monitor, check to see if you have redirected blocks on your HDD. I suspect that your HDD is going bad, and that a value.nds is at least partially stored on a bad block.

What you could also do is down the server, and then restart it, but rather than just SERVER, start it with the command SERVER -ndb This will start it without opening Directory Services. From there, you'll may be able to DSRepair it.

By The Way.

I believe Netware 5 doesn't even allow a NetBasic shell to see SYS:_netware.

You may want to check Novell TID 10058536 for troubleshooting steps.
