Can anyone tell me what vertical sync is? Does it boosts your gaming experience when it is turned on?

Yes and no...

It will increase the way your graphics look. Give you a better picture.

But it will decrease your frame rate.

Depending on the card you are running and the rest of your system, it probably is not something you will want. Butif you have a nice fast card and a reasonably fast computer then you will definately benefit from it.

What kind of card are you using???

For maximum benefit of your system, I would recommend not using V-Sync. I think that you will get much better performance from your system if you abstain from using it.

Also, using an ATI board. I recommend you go to this site and use the drivers supplied there. They are after market modded by OmegaDrive and I've been using his drivers through two different boards by two different manufacturers and they work VERY well!!!

Click on the ATI link and you can get them from there. I've been using these for my Voodoo5 when I still used it and that's where I learned of this guy. After I got my G4 card I learned that he made drivers for Nvidia and ATI also. They work great. They're all I'll use. I totallystay away from the manufacturer drivers. They're crap compared to this guys work!!!

Hope that this helps out!

Well, I have a Radeon 7500 with the updated drivers installed. I have a processor of 800 mhz Duron and 256mb of pc133ram. It is a 2 year old system but it can still run ut2003 really smoothly.

Hi Vertical sync is a signal sent from a graphics card to a monitor to synchronise the picture vertically. I think you are asking about locking the frame rate to vertical sync this feature allows the card to render frames ie a whole picture quicker than the vertical/refresh rate of your monitor. I run my monitor at 1024x768 @ 75Hz refresh, in the Half life game you can display the Frames per second on screen while playing if I have the frames locked to vertical the I get 75 fps in half life if unlocked then I get 100 fps which give a smoother less jerky movement.

This has nothing to do with flicker by having to low a refresh rate.
