Video Controller ? software download

By pmfturner ·
I have reformatted my hard drive, with the result that I can now only display in 16 colours and 640 x 480 pixels !

I have tried downloading what I think is the correct software, but to no avail. Can somebody help ?

In various places on the graphics card, I have the following :-
FCC 32M CM64A ver 1.0
491-1M64A3400
4MX16
3892A413

On the main processor on the card is : AMIC A290011TL-70 0136D 878563

Verify your FCC ID number. If what you posted is correct, the FCC doesn't have any record of it.

The FCC ID number will at least tell you the manufacturer.

From other data, could be an nVidia GeForce MX series card. Drivers are available from nVidia web site.

usually you can see the video card bios reporting first thing on black screen at boot. if your monitor is slow to warm up you can miss this part. try another monitor or lcd monitor. this may be your easiest way to get a clue. if you can get at least mfr you can go to website and get clues for identifying your card.
this can be tricky and sometimes quicker just to get new video card. but i know you don't want to do that. when i have this problem i go to www.driversguide.com login with username drivers password all
and start putting in the numbers one at a time, less is more for this kind of search, and searching. i almost always find it eventually. there is also a way to use debug to read cards memory and find out what it is. i would start on website of www.ati.com to find this and other infor about how to id cards
ps look on chips and post that if you can't find anything else. i thought fcc was for modems you sure you looking at right card (smile)

As the Sarge says you need the Chipset drivers (Intel, Via or other) from the motherboard manufacturer. You should have received a CD with those drivers when you bought it. Or you can download latest version from the web site. If you don't have a computer model (Dell Optiplex GX270 or other)then look on the motherboard for the FCC ID and go to:
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/
Once you install the chipset drivers, then you can install the nvidia drivers and not before.
